Carlow University, along with La Roche College and Duquesne University, will be hosting the Door of Mercy Walk
Carlow University along with La Roche College and Duquesne University will be hosting the Door of Mercy Walk on November 9th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Prior to the event, Carlow University had a service event in preparation for the walk on October 31st. Five to ten students from each institution put together care packages that will be distributed the day of the walk to homeless people they encounter on the route from Duquesne University to St. Paul’s Cathedral. The care packages consist of granola bars, peanut butter crackers, water, soap, shampoo/conditioner, toothbrush/toothpaste, deodorant, chapstick, hand sanitizer, tissues, and lotion.
“All of us receive God’s mercy. In the same way, we are called to show mercy to others. When we hand out care packages during the Pilgrimage, we are able to be merciful to the poor and homeless as we provide for their basic needs for food and toiletries,” says Brenda Byrne, the Director of Mercy Service at Carlow University.
Once participants get to St. Paul’s Cathedral, they get a chance to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation after assigned through the Holy Doors of Mercy at the Cathedral.
Expect Carlow University to be doing more things this school year to help our flourishing community.
