Abt leads Celtics at first women’s golf match

The Carlow University women’s golf team finished third out of four teams in its first competition, at the Grove City College Women’s Fall Invitational, on Friday, Sept. 16.

The Celtics shot 442 on the par-72, 5,848-yard course.

Natalie Abt (FR/Glenshaw, PA) shot 95 and finished in third place overall. Hailey Schleich (SO/Copley, OH) shot 101 and finished in seventh place.

Samantha Stefanik (FR/Apollo, PA) was 16th (120), Leah O’Kresik (FR/Sharon, PA) was 19th (126), Lexie Mirenda (JR/Altoona, PA) was 20th (133) and Blake Sirko was 22nd (144).

St. Vincent College won the invitational, with a team score of 394. Grove City College was the team runner-up, with a score of 423. Liz Loftus (90) and Sam Firestone (91), both of St. Vincent, finished first and second, respectively.

The Carlow men’s and women’s team next play Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 12pm, at the Penn State New Kensington Invitational.
