What's New at Grace Library

Grace Library, located on in the University Commons, is constantly upgrading and refining its systems to serve the Carlow community. Here are just a few of the ways the Library staff can help you -- and ways you can help yourself.

New! Discovery Service: Library Search

Now featured on Grace Library's webpage (www.carlow.edu/library) is a search bar called Library Search.  This will search all of the library's databases and the online catalog in just one search - kind of like Google! The discovery service simplifies the search process by eliminating the need to select specific databases before initiating your search. Search results will bring up related items such as full-text articles, print books, eBooks, and more in the familiar EBSCOhost interface.  One and done!

LibGuides

As you may recall, LibGuides are library research guides that are created by librarians to help you with research and library services.  This summer, the library began creating course and subject guides. Some examples are:

  • BSM 202: Business Communication
  • Graduate Nursing
  • IT 150: Information Technology I
  • RN to BSN

Opposing Viewpoints in Context

During the summer, Grace Library subscribed to a new resource called Opposing Viewpoints in Context. Use this database to find pro/con perspectives covering today's social issues. It contains different types of information including pro/con viewpoints, charts and graphs, articles, videos, and more.  Grace Library also has some books in the Opposing Viewpoints series.

Critical Insights

This database provides full-text to the Critical Insights series, which includes criticism on an author's entire body of work, individual titles, a literary theme, and even some films. Grace Library also owns the series in print.

New Literature Database!

The Literary Reference Center is a full-text database that provides a broad spectrum of information on thousands of authors and their works across literary disciplines and time-frames. Includes a vast array of information such as literary criticism, book reviews, short stories, classic novels, work overviews, and much more!
