Network Services Administrator

Description:

Carlow University invites applications for the position of Network Services Administrator.  The Network Services Administrator has responsibility for network security, firewalls and routers, network and server support, both from a physical and operational perspective.

In conjunction with other team members, this position is critical to the strategic success in providing optimal operations and security of the network and server resources in alignment with business needs and the University's goals.  The incumbent provides design and ongoing support for network services, including ISP connectivity, wired and wireless LAN, server management (including OS patches and backup/recovery), and physical technology services (such as video camera and door access) systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Manage network and telecomm connectivity, including uptime and throughput on WAN and LAN
  • Manage server farm, including OS patching, system upgrades, physical and virtual hardware, backup & recovery functions
  • Support hardware-based systems, such as security cameras and door swipe infrastructure
  • Serve as key member of team in protecting critical information through effective security measures
  • Participate in research, analysis, proposals and implementations of solutions to improve business processes and functions
  • Demonstrate and reflect an understanding of and commitment to the mission and core values of Carlow University and the Sisters of Mercy.

Required Experience:

Minimum of three years in network and systems support:

  • Three years technical knowledge and experience in network, telecomm and server monitoring, maintenance and upgrade
  • One year implementing and/or supporting a virtualized environment
  • One year supporting backup and recovery operations, including proven validation of DR methods

Qualifications:

  • Required: An Associate's Degree in a technology-related field such as Computer Science or Information Science, or comparative work experience
  • Required: relevant & current certifications (or near completion) in any combination of: CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate), MCSE (Microsoft Certified System Engineer), and/or MCSA (Microsoft Certified System Administrator)
  • Required: Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Required: Ability to relate and communicate in a positive way to the many constituencies of the University.

Performance Metrics, per fiscal year

  1. Implementation of one creative technological tool or service that aligns with the core strategic goals of the University.
  2. Key engagement in development of one process or protocol to improve business efficiency

Work schedule

While this position is generally a Monday-Friday full-time responsibility at the Oakland campus, flexibility options exist that would enable an optimal and productive environment which meets the needs of both the incumbent and Carlow University.  Occasional travel to satellite centers will be required to provide support and network maintenance.  Night/weekend work will be required during critical periods such as network service interruptions, system issues and upgrades.
